Hi friend!
Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog and find out a little bit more about why I’ve decided to go on the World Race!
First, let me start off by explaining what the World Race is. The World Race is an 11-month long mission trip where racers spend each month living life and doing ministry in a different country. You learn to live like Jesus alongside your squad mates as you share the Gospel and God’s love with people all over the world. So 11 countries, 11 months… and you do it all while living out of a backpack.
Some of you might be a little bit confused because this is not what you thought I’d be doing after graduating last year. It’s honestly not what I thought I’d be doing either, but I’ll share more about what specifically led me here in another blog. For now, let’s go back to the why. Why on earth would you want to do that? Isn’t it dangerous? Living out of a backpack?! What about your job? I get it. It all sounds a little crazy. But when we look at the Gospel and the way that Jesus lived, we see that he lived in a way that people often thought was strange. His way of doing ministry went against the grain, but it worked. And that’s how I feel God is calling me to live right now.
I think that this opportunity beautifully combines the passions and convictions that God has given me. I’m going on an “unscripted” route which essentially means that there is no set plan. While I know where we’ll be going, we won’t be partnering with any specific ministries or organizations. The intention of this type of route is to challenge us to learn to seek first the Lord in everything. To learn to ask what God wants for each day, to discern the voice of the Holy Spirit, and then to be obedient (<- that’s really the key) to whatever it is that He is asking us to do. These are the very things that I have been praying that God would teach and grow in me and now He is giving me the opportunity to learn these things in a really intentional way for a whole year!
Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” This is the Great Commission. These are Jesus’ final instructions to us. Jesus wants every person, in every corner of the earth to know Him – to have a relationship with Him and to know how much He loves them. I get to be a small part of going and sharing that with people all around the world.
Speaking of “going,” anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE to travel. I love meeting people from different places, learning different languages, experiencing different cultures (trying different food!), and seeing the greatness of this big world. So the fact that travel is a big part of doing the World Race is a sweet bonus from the Lord.
11 months is a long time and I know it won’t always be easy, but I’ve learned first-hand that the most growth happens outside of your comfort zone. And I want to grow. I want to be more like Jesus and love others the way that he loves me. Will I have hard days/weeks on the World Race? Absolutely. Will there be days where I question what I’m doing? Probably. But the growth that I know that’s going to come from it makes it all worth it.
Ultimately, my decision to go on the World Race comes down to wanting to be obedient to God – and this is what I believe He is asking me to be obedient to Him with right now.
So now that I’ve told you the why, I can share with you the where. Countries that I’ll be going to are: Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, South Asia, Nepal, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile!
Lastly: if you want to stay connected and get updates on where I’m at, what I’m doing, fundraising, and what God is teaching me, subscribe to my blog! I’ll be sending out my first round of fundraising letters soon, so if you would like to be sent a letter, let me know and message me your address!
Check out my “About Me” section to get to know a little bit more about me and ways that you can be praying for me.
Thank you again to everyone who has supported, encouraged, and cheered me along this journey so far! I couldn’t do it without each and every one of you. And for those who are just now joining in – welcome! I’m so happy to have you here.
Excited for the adventure.
All my love,
Sierra
