I’m sitting in the Atlanta airport trying to finish typing out my thoughts and hoping to get this posted before I get caught up in the excitement of being with my squad mates and the whirlwind of the adventure that we signed up for on the World Race.
Maybe the best way to keep this is how it already is. You see, several months ago God began to place prayers on my heart for my squad and I and for how we would choose to live over the course of the next 11 months (and onward). I wrote them down as God whispered them to me and I’ve prayed for these things continually this last year as we prepared.
If you’re reading this because you’re following along on this journey God has me on (or even if you just stumbled upon this post), my hope is that you would join me in praying these things over my squad. J squad, if you’re reading this, my hope is that you would join me in praying and seeking out these things for our squad and that you would hold me accountable to living these things out!
So here is it. My continual prayer for each of us as we begin our journey together:
- That we would be united
- That we would stand firm against the evil one and anything he throws our way
- Colossians 1:9-14
- That we would be so committed to loving one another, that we would be willing to walk through the hard stuff (have hard, honest, real conversations with one another)
- That we would hold one another accountable
- That we would have a “yes” in our spirit
- That we would include each other
- That we would not gossip
- That we would hold each other to a higher standard
- That we would actively make ourselves available to whatever it is that the Lord has for us
- That we would be obedient to where Jesus is calling us
- That we would remember why we are here
- That we would live in a way that shows we believe God’s word which says that the Holy Spirit is alive within us
- That we would live “outside of our boat” and outside of our comfort zone
- That we would make the most of each moment
- That we would make the conscious decision to LOVE… even when (*especially when) it’s hard
- That we would be notably different than other people – in the way we speak, act, and love… and that it would draw others to Jesus
- That we would be slow to speak and slow to anger
- That we would be quick to love, show grace, and forgive
- That we would seek to serve not just people outside of our squad, but each other
- That we would be humble
- That we would live with an “abundance” mentality rather than a “scarcity” mentality
- That we would celebrate and worship Jesus through our words, deeds, and thoughts
- That we would be like Jesus even when we think that no one is watching
- That we would look for opportunities to share the Gospel and to love and serve people
- That we would be filled with wisdom and discernment
- That we would make this (obedience and our service to God) a lifestyle… not just a vacation
- That we would reflect the body of Christ (each of us with our unique giftings working together to love others and point them toward Jesus)
It’s day one and I’m already so grateful for each of you. I can’t wait to do this thing with you.
Here’s to J Squad. Here’s to loving recklessly. Here’s to walking out of this different people than we are walking into it.
(Now come and find me in the airport.)
